Dear friends of RENEW,

As we approach the Epiphany, we celebrate how Christ revealed himself to the world through the visit of the Magi. These wise men traveled from afar to 

bring gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh to the newborn King. Their journey reminds us of our own call to seek Christ and to share his presence in our lives and in the world.

One beautiful tradition associated with the Feast of the Epiphany is the Epiphany Chalk Blessing. Families and households are invited to bless their homes for the new year by writing the following inscription above their doors: 20+C+M+B+25. The numbers represent the current year, and the letters stand for the traditional names of the Magi (Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar) as well as the Latin phrase Christus Mansionem Benedicat, which means "May Christ bless this house." The blessing serves as a reminder that our homes are places of Christ’s light and love, meant to shine forth into the world.

As we reflect on the Epiphany, consider these questions for small-group sharing:

The Magi brought gifts to honor Jesus. What gifts of time, talent, or treasure can you offer to manifest Christ’s presence in your community this year?

The Magi followed the star with great faith. What is guiding you closer to Christ in this season of your life?

May this Feast of the Epiphany inspire us to continue our journey of faith with open hearts, sharing the light of Christ wherever we go.
